Information for ordering frozen semen from the Celle National State Stud- 2026

We hope that those of you that ordered doses from Celle last year were successful in your breeding, and now it is that time of year again to look ahead and begin to plan our 2026 breeding season. If you are interested in ordering doses from the Landgestut Celle for 2026, please read through the following information. Price list and order forms can also be found on the CHS website. Please contact Greta Haupt (haupt.greta@gmail.com) with any questions regarding placing an order with the CHS.

 

The Canadian Hanoverian Society is the exclusive distributor in Canada for frozen semen available for export by the Celle National State Stud (Landgestüt Celle). If you intend to order frozen semen from Celle please follow the instructions below and make sure that your order form and payment is received by no later than January 30, 2026.    

 

A price list of the Celle stallions available to us as frozen semen is now available on the Semen in Inventory page. This price list is posted under the “Ordering Frozen” heading on the website, and is in Canadian dollars, and all payments are due in Canadian dollars.

 

Members of the Canadian Hanoverian Society receive a 20% discount from our list price. Prior to January 30th the price list shown on the CHS website will include the complete list of stallions available for Export from Celle, as well as their prices in Canadian dollars. After January 30th, 2026 orders will only be filled from an inventory of selected stallions that the CHS has on hand, and therefore after January 30th, the price list will be updated to show only those stallions available in our club inventory.

Frozen semen from these stallions is packaged in a breeding dose typically containing 3, 4 or 8 pipettes (straws) of 0.5 ml each, although a few stallions are packaged with a different number of straws. Every order is filled with the exact number of straws per breeding dose as shipped from Celle.      

 

To be eligible for import from Celle, payments must reach Greta Haupt by January 30, 2025. Any order not paid in full prior to the deadline will not be included in out shipment, and therefore, will only be fulfilled if available in our Canadian inventory and once payment is received. Send your order form and cheque, bank draft or money order payable to the Canadian Hanoverian Society for the total amount. Payment can also be accepted by etransfer of funds to MarjorieHaus.chs@gmail.com. Payment through Paypal is also accepted, please contact Greta for further instructions if Paypal is your preferred payment method. 

 

The order will then be placed with Celle, we arrange an Import Permit with CFIA for the shipment, and dry shippers are sent to the State Stud. The shipment should arrive and, once cleared by CFIA, be available approximately late March to mid- April. Once you have been notified that the shipment has been cleared, we ask that you pick-up or arrange to have your order shipped within 30 days.    

 

New this year: our inventory will be stored with Dr. Daniel Jou. If you are using Dr. Claire Plante for your reproductive work or have doses stored with her, please include this on your order form, and your doses can be transferred to storage with Dr. Plante. *Please note: The shipping/handling charge per dose, as seen on the order form, assists in paying for all the costs to get your semen order into storage at Dr. Jou’s facility (Shipping from Germany, import permits, insurance etc) as well as his handling fee to pack the semen when shipping it on to you. Therefore the Shipping/Handling charge must be included on all orders. Dr. Jou requires 48 hours’ notice of shipping (If shipping is requested with less than 48 hours’ notice an extra fee of $100.00 (Subject to change) will be billed by Dr. Jou for a rushed order. As well, if Dr. Jou has to charge a dry shipper the cost is $75.00 (Subject to change)) The shipping/handling fee does not cover the shipping costs of FedEx or Purolator to ship the semen to you from Dr. Jou. All FedEx and Purolator costs associated with shipping your dry shipper to and from Dr. Jou’s Facility are covered by you as the buyer of the doses. If you know of someone else in your area purchasing doses with us, please note this on your order form so we can ship them together, or if we see other orders coming from a similar location we will contact you to see if the doses could be shipped together in an effort to assist with lowering the shipping cost for you.   

 

When you have been notified that the shipment has been cleared by CFIA, you will have to arrange for your dry shipper to be sent to Dr. Jou ( we recommend that FedEx be used) or you can also arrange to personally take a dry shipper to Dr. Plante. The club also has two dry shippers and these may be rented ata cost of $50 for up to two weeks use (this does not include any courier costs for transportation or cost of charging the dry shipper). If you would like to rent a dry shipper contact Greta.
