Eclipsed by Color (formerly known as Color Guard) is a six-year old chestnut stallion by Escudo out of the mare Freya by Federalist/Matcho AA. He is a very colourful chestnut stallion, very similar to his very famous great grandsire For Pleasure. He was performance tested in the U.S. 2010 at Silver Creed Farm, Oklahoma. There he showed that he does not only have the For Pleasure colour and markings but also the jumping genes. He was the best jumping stallion in the test with a jumping index of 127 points and second overall with 118.65 points. Eclipsed by Color comes from the breeding program of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Already his dam Freya was bred in Canada by Windswept Farm. His owner is Katrina Ruotsalo from White Fish, Ontario.

Dream Master is an eight-year old chestnut stallion by Dimaggio, who was World Champion of Young Dressage Horses as a five-year old, out of Elite mare Daisy Dee by Dream of Glory/Western Star. Dream Master was bred in England and was champion foal at the British Hanoverian Show in 2003. He got his performance qualification through competition. Ridden by Charlotte Bredahl he has wins and high placings at Prix St. George and Intermediaire and got licensed at the Hanoverian inspection at Rainbow Equus Meadows in California. Dreammaster will stand at the Hanoverian stud Dreamcatcher Meadows, Pemberton, BC.

Freestyle is a 15-year old Hessen stallion by the famous stallion Florestan out of a mare by Parademarsch from a Westphalian motherline which leads a lot of Hanoverian blood. Freestyle is already a proven stallion. As a three-year old he was winner of his performance test at Radegast with a performance test index of 127.42 points. In the dressage index he was second with 132.55. He has a very high FN dressage breeding value of 148 points. Freestyle stands at Dreamscape Farm at Langley, BC.

Novalis is a 16-year old Dutch jumper stallion with an excellent pedigree. His sire Jus de Pomme was individual gold medallist at the Olympics in Atlanta 1996. On his dam`s side he has the stallions Ramiro, Nimmerdor and Lucky Boy, who are jumping sires of international quality. Novalis qualified through international competition results, ridden by high level riders such as Markus Beerbaum, Marc Houdzaker and Laura Kraut. Novalis stands at Dreamscape Farm at Langley, B.C..

The mares’ original pedigree papers must be brought to the inspection!

Three-year-old and older Hanoverian mares, need a total score of at least six for entry into the Main Studbook. Three-year-old and older non-Hanoverian mares with at least 50% Hanoverian bloodlines, whose non–Hanoverian ancestors belong to the following populations need a total score of seven or better:

• Arab and Anglo Arab
• Holstein
• Thoroughbred
• Trakehner
• Westphalia

Mares may not currently be registered with any other breed organizations as an active broodmare. The issuing of papers for foals resulting out of these mares and the branding of these foals can only be conducted by one organization (her breed organization or where she is approved for that year).

Mare Performance Test

Mare Performance Tests have become an important measure in the Hanoverian breed and most newly registered mares participate. The basic gaits, jumping talent and the mare’s rideability are tested by an invited test rider. Individual scores are given from 0 (not performed ) to 10 (excellent). The final certificate contains an overall total score and after passing the test each mare will receive a stall plaque and test certificate. The judges are representatives of the Hanoverian Verband.

The test is voluntary except for owners who wish their mares to be considered as an Elite Mare Candidate. If you are interested in having your mare tested, please notify your local breeding club to arrange it. The test fee will be collected on the day of the test. In Western Canada the Mare Performance Test usually takes place prior to the studbook inspection.

Elite Mares

At the mare shows, a mare can obtain the title of Elite Mare or Elite Mare Candidate. This is the equivalent to the title “Staatspramienstute” which can only be awarded in Germany.

Regulations for the title of Elite Mare in Canada

• the mare must either carry the Canadian Hanoverian hip brand or the brand of the Verband or the brand of another approved Hanoverian society and must be entered into the Main Studbook.
• Her dam must be entered into the main studbook
• The mare must have passed her Mare Performance Test at the age of five at the latest with the following results:• Average Gaits/Average Rideability/Average Jumping
  • Versatile Mares 7.0/7.0/7.0
  • Dressage Talented Mares 7.25/5.0
  • (Average Gait and Rideability)
  • Jumping Talented Mares 6.0/7.25
  • (Average Rideability and Jumping)
• The title is awarded to three- or four-year-old mares. On principle the title is awarded at an official mare show of the two Canadian horse breeding clubs by the respective judges’ commission. The mares are graded and must be classified into Ia. If no mare show takes place in a region then the title may be awarded at a studbook inspection where two official judges are present.
• The mare must not be a roarer. The veterinary examination on this fault must be carried out in the year in which the title is awarded. The respective veterinary surgeons must be approved by the Verband.
• The mare must give birth to a live foal which is registered with the Verband. The mare is recorded as an Elite Mare Candidate as long as she has not fulfilled this requirement. If the mare does not give birth to a live foal she is not awarded the title.
• States Premium candidates which are imported from Germany receive the title of an Elite Mare if they give birth to a foal in Canada and fulfill all the other requirements.
• The title Elite Mare is added to the pedigree paper and is recorded as part of the name of the mare as soon as all the requirements (including the foal) have been met. The abbreviations are: EM and EM-CA.

In order to have a registered Hanoverian foal, both the mare and the stallion have to be registered and approved by the Hanoverian Verband. Only foals by approved stallions will be eligible for registration.

The Abfohlmeldung

After the insemination certificate has been sent to the Verband’s office, they print an “Abfohlmeldung” and send it to the mare owner by mid-April.

When your foal is born, please contact the Verband’s representative for Eastern or Western Canada, to let them know you have a live foal this year. They will advise you when and where you can have your foal registered and branded. At registration they will fill in the date of birth, all markings, colour and sex. The foal must be presented with the Abfohlmeldung which is completed at the time of registration.

DNA Testing

All foals need to be DNA tested. Maiden mares must also be DNA tested in order to confirm parentage for their foals. Samples will be taken at the time of branding.

Monika by Merlin (Magic) is a bay 1998 MSB Hanoverian broodmare. Her sire Merlin is known for producing foals that excel in the jumper, eventing and dressage ring. In his stallion testing Merlin was awarded an impressive score of 142 points for improvement of type and 126 points for limb improvement. Merlin was the Reserve Champion at his performance test, ranking 1st in jumping, and 2nd in rideability. Monika’s dam Weide is by World Cup IV. This sire line, going back through Woermann and Wohler, has produced oustanding horses including World Cup I-V, Wenzel I, Weltmeyer, Wolkenstein II and Warkant. Monika has produced several lovely, correct, and athletic foals, two are available for viewing on the farm. She is also papered and approved for breeding with the CSH association. Monika passes on a wonderful temperament along with a sweet nature to her impressive and versatile foals. Her foals are large with significant bone, two of her foals finished 17.2h. She is a fantastic mother and babysitter, and has been known to let other foals nurse while she’s nursing her own foal!

They count among the most popular and recognizable symbols of Canada: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), affectionately known as the "Mounties". The policemen on horseback ensure not only law and order in the second largest country of the world, they also regularly present their "Musical Ride". It has been the long desire of the Hannoveraner Verband to welcome its Canadian customers with the Musical Ride in Verden. And now it is the first time that the RCMP will celebrate its fantastic choreography to music in the saddle in the Niedersachsenhalle  - on May 4, 2012. 

The RCMP is breeding their black horses for the Musical Ride in their own stud in Pakenham, Ontario. For more than 20 years, the Mounties have been closely co-operating with the Hannoveraner Verband, and they almost exclusively acquire their horses from the Hanoverian breeding area. There are presently about 20 Hanoverian broodmares stabled with the stud, complemented by three stallions. 

The Musical Ride has already been developed by members of the mounted police in Canada in 1876 with the purpose of presenting their riding skills on the one hand and to entertain the audience on the other hand. Throughout the many years, this has been developing into a fascinating and unique show, delighting thousands of spectators in Canada, North America and many other parts of the world year by year. The RCMP with its 36 riders and horses will travel to Europe in June on the occasion of the 60th throne anniversary of Queen Elisabeth II. Before continuing their trip to Great Britain, the team will stop in Verden on May 4 and present their impressive show in the Niedersachsenhalle in Verden. The Canadian show presentation will be embedded by more fascinating show acts. "We are happy that we have finally been in a position to present this fantastic show presentation this year," Dr. Ludwig Christmann, head of the development and consulting department of the Hannoveraner Verband, summarizes.  "The Mounties have been very close with the Hanoverian horse and with the Verband for many years, and now they have the chance to present their incredible skills to the German audience."
